What is Parts Therapy?

Parts Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps explore and resolve subconscious inner conflict.

It is based on the understanding that we all have different parts within us.

For example, one part may want peace, growth, health, love, or success, while another part may resist change, avoid risk, seek comfort, or try to protect you from disappointment, rejection, pressure, or emotional pain.

This is why you may find yourself thinking:

“I want to do this… but I keep doing the opposite.”
“I know what would help me… but something in me will not let me.”
“I keep repeating the same pattern, even though I want to change.”

Parts Therapy helps bring these hidden inner dynamics into awareness, so they can be understood, heard, and gently brought into better alignment.

Who this is for

This session may be right for you if part of you wants change, but another part keeps resisting it.

You may know what you want to do, yet still find yourself stuck in the same habits, emotional patterns, or inner struggles.

This work can be especially supportive when you feel divided within yourself and want to understand what is happening more deeply, rather than keep blaming yourself.

Do you ever feel like one part of you wants to move forward, while another part keeps pulling you back?

You may want to eat better, rest more, stop a habit, speak up for yourself, feel more confident, or make healthier choices — yet somehow you keep ending up in the same cycle.

This can feel frustrating, confusing, and exhausting, especially when you know what you want but cannot seem to follow through.

Parts Therapy helps you understand this inner conflict more deeply.

Rather than seeing your struggle as weakness, lack of willpower, or self-sabotage for no reason, this work looks at the different parts within you that may be pulling in different directions.

Often, these parts developed for good reasons. They may once have tried to protect you, help you cope, or keep you safe — but now they may be working in ways that no longer support the life you want to live.

Why Inner Conflict happens

Inner conflict often develops when different parts of you are trying to meet different needs.

For example, one part may want success, while another part fears being seen, judged, or overwhelmed.

One part may want intimacy, while another part fears closeness because of past hurt.

One part may want a healthier life, while another part keeps reaching for familiar behaviours that once offered comfort, relief, or protection.

These parts are not bad.

They usually formed with a purpose.

The difficulty comes when they are no longer working together.

What looks like laziness, resistance, or self-sabotage on the outside may actually be an inner protective response that no longer fits your current life.

When you understand what each part is trying to do for you, change often becomes more possible — and far more compassionate.

What Parts Therapy may help with

This work may be especially helpful if you feel stuck in patterns that do not make sense on the surface.

It may support people who struggle with:

  • self-sabotaging behaviour

  • repeating emotional patterns

  • feeling pulled in two directions

  • difficulty following through on goals

  • overeating or unhealthy habits

  • smoking or drinking patterns

  • fear of change

  • overworking or difficulty resting

  • people-pleasing and difficulty setting boundaries

  • relationship patterns that keep repeating

  • low motivation or inner resistance

  • confidence blocks

  • feeling stuck even when you know what you want

How does Parts Therapy session work?

In a Parts Therapy session, you are guided into a calm and relaxed state, often using light hypnosis or deep inner focus.

This helps us access the subconscious mind more easily, where these inner parts often communicate through feelings, images, metaphors, stories, or inner knowing.

During the session, we explore the different parts involved in the conflict.

For example, there may be a part that pushes you forward and a part that holds you back.

As we begin to understand their roles, motives, fears, and intentions, it often becomes clear that both parts are trying to help you in different ways — even if one of them is currently creating difficulty.

The aim of the session is not to fight or get rid of any part of you.

The aim is to help these parts come into better understanding, balance, and cooperation, so that your inner system begins to work more with you rather than against you.

Sometimes this involves helping a part take on a new, more supportive role. Sometimes it involves releasing an old protective pattern that is no longer needed. Sometimes the deep understanding itself creates the shift.

Important note

Parts Therapy is not about judging any part of you.

Even the part that seems to be creating problems usually developed for a reason and is often trying to protect, defend, comfort, or help in some way.

This work is about understanding those deeper motives and helping your inner system move towards greater balance and integration.

One session can be deeply helpful, but some people may benefit from further work depending on how complex or long-standing the issue is.

What a Session may Feel Like

Parts Therapy is often experienced as insightful, gentle, and surprisingly powerful.

Some people find it emotional.
Some find it fascinating.
Some feel relief in finally understanding why they have been doing what they do.

The subconscious mind often communicates in symbols, images, feelings, or unexpected inner characters. That is completely normal.

The process does not need to make perfect logical sense in order to be meaningful or effective.

You do not need to do it perfectly.

You only need to be willing to explore with openness and honesty.
